When the teacher (Laura) asked everyone to sit down in the circle, his new friend Michael had a difficult time leaving his parents. It was nice to see Aaron help cheer Michael up (on his own) by asking him to sit next to him. The two stuck together the rest of the day.

Aaron is one of only 15 students in his class. In addition to the teacher, there is also a teaching assistant and 3 parent volunteers present each day. That's an amazing student to teacher ratio. My volunteer day will be every Tuesday. Aaron's pretty excited to know that he and daddy will be in school together one day a week.

One thing you notice right away is that the class is mostly girls. This will balance out a bit once he hits 1st grade and the am/pm classes merge into a single class. Until then, he'll have a lot of "girl" friends and new social skills to learn. Too bad he's too young to realize... that's a good thing.

The rest of the morning was filled with a tour of the school, snack-time, exploring the classroom, learning centers, the school garden, and recess. The last activity is a scheduled overlap time with the afternoon class (about 20 min) so all the kids can interact each day. Aaron already has a friend (Colin) in the afternoon class which he was worried he wouldn't be able to see.

It was a great first day of school. We celebrated with a pizza lunch.
